The story
Damian is a CASAMATA restaurant in Los Angeles’ Arts District, serving contemporary cuisine rooted in Mexican culture. The kitchen draws inspiration from the Pacific coasts’ culinary traditions while celebrating seasonal Californian produce. This approach has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction, a recognition that speaks to the careful execution and thoughtful sourcing behind every dish.
Chef Founder Enrique Olvera leads the vision, with Chuy Cervantes serving as Jefe de Cocina and Carlos García de la Cabada as General Manager. The team’s commitment to detail is evident from ingredient sourcing to the farewell at the door.
The menu reads like a journey through Mexico’s coastal flavors, reimagined with local ingredients. Starters include a classic Guacamole with herbs and tostadas, and a Salmon Tostada brightened with sungold tomatoes and chicatana ants. The Kanpachi Ceviche pairs ginger turnip relish with green tomato, while the Carrot Aguachile features blue shrimp, scallop, and sal de gusano. For heartier plates, there’s Pescado a la Talla – dry-aged branzino with chayote – and Duck Carnitas confit in cola, served with shishitos and jardin. The Carne Asada offers a choice of prime flat iron or ribeye, both grilled simply.
The beverage program mirrors the cuisine, focusing on artisanal spirits and letting high-quality ingredients shine. Classic and creative cocktails – from a clarified picante to a blood orange milk punch – complement the meal.
Damian’s interior is refined yet relaxed, with a greenery-filled patio perfect for outdoor entertaining. A private dining room accommodates up to 11 guests for intimate gatherings, while the main space and patio suit larger events. The restaurant is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday, with valet parking available. Every detail, from the airy space to the thoughtful service, reflects a deep pride in Mexican heritage.
