The story
Spoon & Pork is the story of two friends, Ray and Jay, who grew up in the Philippines and brought the bold, comforting flavors of their childhood to Los Angeles. What began as a food truck in 2017—named Best Food Truck of 2017 by LA Weekly within three months of launch—evolved into a brick-and-mortar in Silver Lake in 2019. That same year, both the Los Angeles Times and New York Times spotlighted their signature dishes, the Patita and Coco Jack, as among the best of 2019.
The restaurant’s philosophy is simple: “Born in the Philippines and made in Los Angeles.” They describe their menu as modern Filipino comfort food, reimagining traditional flavors through a contemporary lens. Standout dishes include Patita, Sisig, and Short Rib Kare Kare—each rooted in Filipino cuisine but presented with a fresh perspective.
In 2020, Spoon & Pork landed on the LA Times 101 Best Restaurants list, and Plate Magazine named Ray and Jay Chefs to Watch. The following year, they earned a spot on the California Michelin Guide with the Michelin Plate distinction—a recognition that continues to mark the restaurant as a destination for Filipino food in Los Angeles. A second location on Sawtelle Blvd in West LA followed in 2021.
The restaurant also offers a curated selection of wines, such as the Lubanzi Rainboat 2023 from South Africa—a deep pink, bright, and refreshing wine with notes of cherry and strawberry.
As of late 2024, Spoon & Pork’s Silver Lake location has closed its doors, but the team emphasizes that this is not goodbye. The spirit of Spoon & Pork lives on through catering, kamayan-style meals, and a soon-to-launch line of bottled signature sauces. For those who want to experience their modern Filipino comfort food, the legacy continues.
