Dio Deka in Los Gatos

The name “Dio Deka” translates to “2-10” from Greek, a direct reference to the restaurant’s address at 210 E. Main Street—and, as it happens, the area code of Athens. Housed in a Tuscan-style villa within the Hotel Los Gatos, the restaurant offers a contemporary yet warm setting. Its swanky interior opens onto a stunning courtyard and patio, while private rooms accommodate everything from intimate gatherings to corporate functions.

Dio Deka is the realization of a dream shared by five Greek business partners and longtime friends: Nikos Kalouris, Vagelis Papazisis, Yiani Dulles, Julian Platis, and Petros Katopodis. Since opening in November 2006, the restaurant has earned widespread acclaim. It made history as the first Greek restaurant in the United States to receive a Michelin star (in 2011 and 2012) and continues to hold a Michelin Plate for its outstanding cuisine.

Greek Cuisine at Its Grandest

The menu, overseen by chef Nicko Moulinos, celebrates Hellenic cuisine—Greek cooking at its most refined. Dishes draw on authentic regional traditions, with many recipes passed down from the partners’ own families, reimagined with modern techniques and presentation. The kitchen emphasizes locally grown, seasonal ingredients: organic produce, USDA Premium beef, organic pork, and free-range chicken are complemented by artisan Greek products such as cheeses, olive oil, oregano, and thyme-scented honey.

Standouts include the chef’s extraordinary lamb dishes and fish flown in from Greece. The craft cocktails and the wine list—which has earned multiple Awards of Excellence—are equally noteworthy, and the bar scene adds to the restaurant’s lively energy.

Filoxenia: The Spirit of Hospitality

At the heart of Dio Deka is filoxenia, the Greek concept of traditional hospitality. The managing partners are often seen mingling with guests, embodying the belief that a stranger (xenos) should be welcomed as a friend (filos). This commitment to old-world hospitality, combined with the restaurant’s innovative take on Mediterranean cuisine, makes Dio Deka a destination that feels both grand and genuinely welcoming.
