The story
aMaze is a reservation-only, high-end private dining restaurant in Taipei’s Zhongshan District, built on the philosophy of sincere hospitality. The name captures the desired reaction: “Wow, amazing!” This is a place for set menus, suited to both solo diners and larger gatherings, where the goal is to deliver a continuous stream of surprises on the plate.
The approach to contemporary Chinese cuisine is guided by Executive Chef Yang Guangzong, a veteran with nearly thirty years in the industry. Known as “Zong Ge,” he is a master of both traditional techniques and modern interpretation. Alongside Chef Huang Chunjen, who brings two decades of experience, he leads a young, passionate team from varied culinary backgrounds. Their mission is to weave together the old and the new, crafting dishes that feel both deeply rooted and refreshingly current.
The dining experience at aMaze is designed to engage all five senses—visual, olfactory, tactile, gustatory, and auditory. The space itself is crafted for comfort, ease, and joy, setting the stage for a meal that aspires to become a lasting memory. The kitchen’s strength lies in its ability to work with unique ingredients and time-honored methods, creating private-dish cooking that can also be tailored to the guest’s preferences.
This dedication was quickly recognized. Just one year after opening, aMaze was awarded a Michelin star in the 2025 guide. It also became the first restaurant in Taiwan to receive Michelin’s Opening of the Year Award, an honor that celebrates restaurants with a creative concept and unique culinary style that bring fresh influence to the local scene. This recognition underscores the team’s success in presenting a soulful, innovative take on contemporary Chinese cuisine to an international stage.
