The story
Cafe Commerce opened in 2024 on Lexington Avenue, the latest project from chef Harold Moore, a James Beard–nominated talent who spent years in the kitchens of Daniel Boulud and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Together with managing partner Charles Pouchot and partner Patrick Corbett, Moore created an intimate, 15-table restaurant that blends the ease of a neighborhood spot with the precision of fine dining. The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in its first year, a nod to the quality of its cooking and service.
Moore describes the menu as “American cuisine crafted in the French tradition,” a philosophy he calls bistronomy. The cooking is grounded in technique—think foie gras bread stuffing in Harold’s Famous Chicken, or escargot butter on sea scallops—but the flavors are direct and satisfying. A daily rotation of plats du jour includes Monday’s BBQ pork ribs, Thursday’s lamb chops with mustard, figs, and pistachios, and Sunday’s beef stroganoff. The à la carte menu offers classics like duck au poivre and steak Diane, alongside a Commerce Cheeseburger that has already become a local favorite.
The space seats 40 in the dining room, with an 11-seat bar and a small outdoor patio. The team emphasizes “small things done well”—from the booth design to the glassware and artwork. Cocktails are clever without being fussy, and the wine list leans French, Italian, and American, with thoughtful selections by the glass. The result is a place that feels both special and genuinely welcoming, whether you’re stopping in for a solo dinner at the bar or a leisurely meal with friends.
