The story
When Cervo’s opened in the summer of 2017 on Canal Street in New York City’s Chinatown, it introduced a fresh perspective on Spanish seafood. The restaurant describes itself as a “downtown ode to the seafood of the Iberian Peninsula and a love letter to sustainable ingredients from the Northeast.” This dual focus—honoring coastal Spanish traditions while sourcing from local waters—gives the cooking a distinct, grounded character.
The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Cervo’s takes reservations year-round for indoor seats and also saves room for walk-ins. From April through October, outdoor dining on Canal Street opens for the season, with those tables available on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s a place that feels both lively and intimate, fitting comfortably into the neighborhood.
The wine list at Cervo’s highlights bottles from coastal Spain and Portugal, chosen to complement the seafood-focused menu. Behind the bar, the team puts “new spins on classic cocktails” every evening, adding a creative layer to the drinks program. This thoughtful approach to beverages has helped earn the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that recognizes good quality, good value cooking.
Cervo’s is part of a small group of sibling restaurants that includes Hart’s, The Fly, Eel Bar, and Minnow. Each has its own personality, but they share a commitment to straightforward, ingredient-driven cooking. At Cervo’s, that means a menu that changes with the seasons and a kitchen that lets the seafood speak for itself.
