The story
In New York City’s Flatiron district, Cote has redefined the steakhouse experience. The restaurant’s mantra is simple: grilled steak, fire, and cocktails. The result blends the convivial, interactive energy of Korean barbecue with the hallmarks of a classic American steakhouse.
Founded by Seoul-born restaurateur Simon Kim, Cote opened in June 2017 with a vision to create a game-changing Korean restaurant. It has since earned the distinction of being America’s first and only Michelin-starred Korean Steakhouse, a recognition it continues to hold. The restaurant has also been named the Best Steakhouse in North America by World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants.
The dining experience centers on high-quality beef. Everything served is USDA Prime—the top 5% of American cattle—or American Wagyu, a crossbreed of Japanese Wagyu and Black Angus. Guests can choose from a la carte cuts or the Butcher’s Feast, a multi-course meal featuring four selected cuts with Korean accompaniments, savory egg soufflé, and stews. The Steak Omakase offers a grand tour of meat with an optional wine pairing.
The atmosphere is unique and interactive, with tabletop grilling at the center of the meal. An award-winning wine list of over 1,200 labels and a suite of classic-but-creative cocktails complement the food. The team describes their approach as “hospitality-forward,” blending attention to detail with a sense of fun.
