The story
At Pinch Chinese on Prince Street in SoHo, dumplings are the main event. The menu leads with Pork Soup Dumplings — described as “bite sized explosions of porky goodness” — alongside versions filled with chicken, fish, vegetable, or shiitake and truffle. The kitchen also turns out pan-fried beef dumplings spiked with curry and, on weekends, a brunch-only Bacon Egg + Cheese Dumpling that nods to New York classics.
The kitchen’s ambition extends well beyond dumplings. The Peking Duck requires 72 hours notice and at least one hour for preparation, served with traditional accompaniments. Wind Sand Chicken — a whole Lancaster chicken marinated for three days — arrives under a blanket of crispy garlic and bread crumbs. Large plates such as Snow Crab in a Chinese Restaurant and Typhoon Shelter Black Cod demonstrate a confident hand with fermented ingredients and bold texture.
Pinch Chinese has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, a recognition that rewards quality cooking at a more accessible price point. That value shows in the all-day menu, where dishes range from Sichuan String Beans to Creekstone Farms Ribeye offered two ways: with Sichuan spicy doubanjiang or Cantonese black pepper.
The bar and lounge host Happy Millennial Hour on weeknights, with rotating food and drink specials from 5pm to 7pm. Tuesday nights bring Flight Nights, with a new trio of wines paired with dumplings each week. The wine program has drawn a recommendation from Star Wine List, and the restaurant welcomes corkage for bottles not on the current list.
The dining room, bar, and lounge all offer air conditioning and wheelchair access. Outdoor seating is available, and the restaurant can accommodate private parties and dietary restrictions with advance notice.
