The story
Sal Tang's is the newest project from Sal Lamboglia and managing partner Giovanna Cucolo, the team behind beloved Brooklyn spots Café Spaghetti and Swoony’s. For this venture, they joined forces with Wilson Tang to open a Cantonese American restaurant on Hicks Street in Carroll Gardens. It’s the third Brooklyn restaurant for the duo, and the first for Tang.
The space, designed by Matt Maddie, evokes a classic Chinese-American dining room. Green and black vinyl floors, six-foot antique flower pots, and carefully chosen décor create a setting that feels both nostalgic and welcoming. The restaurant aims for a cozy, family-oriented atmosphere that matches the hospitality Lamboglia and Cucolo have cultivated at their other restaurants.
The menu stays firmly in the Cantonese American tradition with a contemporary touch. Appetizers like salt and pepper chicken wings, wonton soup, and scallion pancakes lead into entrées such as beef with broccoli in black pepper sauce, sweet and sour chicken, and Sal Tang’s sesame chicken cutlet with General Tso’s sauce. Dim sum options and dishes like short rib pancake with char siu sauce add variety.
In 2026, Sal Tang's earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that recognizes good quality, good value cooking. The honor places the restaurant among the best affordable dining options in New York City, confirming that the team’s approach to Cantonese American cuisine resonates with both critics and neighbors.
