The story
Yemenat brings the flavors of Yemen to Brooklyn’s 5th Avenue, earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good-quality, good-value cooking. The kitchen relies on fresh, locally sourced organic ingredients, a commitment that threads through every dish.
Start with Shafoot – Lahooh bread soaked in herbal yogurt, topped with pomegranate. For heartier beginnings, Maraq (Yemeni Soup) features tender marinated beef skewers grilled and served with a tangy peanut sauce and pickled cucumbers.
The entrées highlight Yemeni techniques. Lamb Haneeth is roasted lamb marinated in aromatic spices, slow-cooked under pressure, and served with fragrant basmati rice, nuts, and crispy fried onions. Chicken Haneeth follows the same treatment. Aqdah stir-fries tender lamb shreds with tomatoes, onions, bell pepper, and potatoes in a special Yemeni spice blend. A Vegetable Tagine offers a Moroccan-style option with seasonal vegetables, chickpeas, apricots, and couscous.
Desserts include classic crème brûlée and chocolate lava cake, while the drink menu ranges from mocktails like Sparkling Berry Lemonade to wines by the bottle.
Open daily from 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Yemenat provides a relaxed spot for lunch or dinner. Its Middle Eastern cuisine, rooted in fresh ingredients and slow-cooked tradition, explains why the Bib Gourmand jury took notice.
