The story
For over thirty years, Angelo’s Steak and Pancake House has been a local landmark in Newport News, Virginia. This family-style steakhouse has built its reputation on a simple creed: people expect good food at a fair price. It’s a philosophy that has guided the restaurant since it first opened its doors in 1984.
The story begins with Angelo Theodorogiannis, who arrived in America from Karpenisi, Greece, in 1974 and entered the family business. After opening his first restaurant in partnership, Angelo opened Angelo’s Steak and Pancake House in Newport News with his brother, Nick Theodor. In 2005, Angelo’s son, Constantine “Costa,” joined the family business after graduating from George Mason University. Together, Angelo, Costa, and their entire staff continue the tradition of welcoming guests with genuine hospitality.
The restaurant offers a comfortable, family-style atmosphere and provides banquet facilities for large groups. The menu, rooted in the steakhouse tradition, reflects the family’s commitment to quality and value. This dedication to consistent, straightforward cooking has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended award, a notable recognition for a Newport News institution that has remained a beloved part of the community for decades.

Specialises in dry-aged steak and Fujian aged fish, captivating diners with an aging process involving strict temperature and humidity control within proprietary aging cabinets. Founded by John Sau, formerly Head Chef at Peter Luger, a venue ranked among the world's top ten steakhouses. Established a partnership there with Front of House Manager Jorge Salazar. Worked alongside Mr. Wolfgang for eight years before returning to China to launch the venture. Opened the first J&A Steak House at the Xiamen International Cruise Centre in 2013 and expanded to Fuzhou, the founder's hometown, in 2022. Unites Chef John's 36 years of culinary experience in the US with Jorge Salazar's 26 years of service expertise to present the highest quality dry-aged steaks.
