The story
Fogo de Chão traces its roots to the mountainous countryside of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where the founding brothers learned to cook in the churrasco grilling tradition on a family farm. After formal training as churrasqueiros in Rio and São Paulo, they opened their first restaurant in Porto Alegre—a wood structure that quickly drew politicians, businessmen, and celebrities. By 1997, loyal American guests had convinced the team to export the concept, debuting in Dallas, Texas. Today, the Oakbrook Terrace location continues that legacy, keeping the flames of churrasco burning since 1979.
At Fogo de Chão, the culinary art of churrasco is front and center. Gaucho chefs carve an endless rotation of fire-roasted meats tableside—from Picanha (prime top sirloin) to Fraldinha (bottom sirloin) and Wagyu New York Strip. The experience is complemented by the seasonal Market Table, a vibrant spread of fresh salads, vegetables, and authentic Brazilian sides. For a change of pace, Bar Fogo offers Brazilian-inspired small plates, craft cocktails, and an award-winning wine list.
The wine program earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2022, reflecting a carefully curated selection that includes the Founders Tribute Wine Collection. This collection features four wines—Jorjão (Malbec), Eulila (Red Blend), O’Leão (Red Blend), and The Sonhadores (Cabernet Sauvignon)—each paired specifically with signature cuts. Special events like the VIK Wine Dinner, featuring a 100-point vintage, further showcase the restaurant’s commitment to world-class pairings. Whether you’re here for a full churrasco dinner or a cocktail at the bar, the Brazilian steakhouse experience in Oakbrook Terrace is rooted in tradition and executed with precision.
