Since 2009, Snackbar has served as Oxford’s neighborhood restaurant and living room, a place where the community gathers for fresh raw oysters on the half shell, skillfully-crafted cocktails, and ardent fare. Situated just off The Square in the now-revived Midtown Shopping Center, this Southern Brasserie was founded by Chef John Currence, the force behind the City Grocery Restaurant Group.

The kitchen is led by Chef Sebastian Markowitz, a protégé of former executive chef Vishwesh Bhatt, who helped define the restaurant’s welcoming spirit. The menu reflects a commitment to local ingredients whenever possible, blending American and Indian cuisines in a way that feels both grounded and inventive. This thoughtful approach has earned Snackbar a Michelin Recommended distinction, a testament to its consistent quality and warm hospitality.

The atmosphere is relaxed and open—Chef Currence simply asks that guests remove their hats while dining. Whether you’re stopping in for happy hour at the bar (Monday through Saturday, 4-6pm) or settling in for a full dinner, the space invites you to stay a while. The team emphasizes that all are welcome, making Snackbar a true gathering place for Oxonians and visitors alike.
