The story
At the historic Stanford Barn in Palo Alto, Vina Enoteca brings modern Italian cuisine to Silicon Valley. The restaurant occupies a building originally constructed as a winery between 1886 and 1888, and today its modern décor and lighting accent the rustic brickwork and wooden beams, creating a setting that feels both refined and welcoming.
The team here focuses on fresh-made pasta, pizza, and bread, combining traditional Italian favorites with modern interpretations. The menu changes with the seasons, but the commitment to handmade pasta is a constant. Dishes like the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, with its pork and beef ragù, and the Mafaldine al ragù, featuring slow-braised short rib and bone marrow, are standouts. The pizza program is equally serious, with options like the Nduja e Pere, pairing spicy nduja sausage with local pears and Jersey mozzarella.
The Italian and surrounding region wine program, along with house-crafted cocktails, is designed to complement the food. A happy hour runs from 4 pm to 6 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant also operates Vina Mercato, an Italian-style market for groceries, pasta, and sauce, open from 11 am to 9 pm.
Vina Enoteca has earned a place on the Michelin Recommended list, a recognition that speaks to the consistent quality of its contemporary Italian cooking. It is a place where the soul of Italian cuisine meets the energy of the Bay Area.
