The story
Pietramala describes itself simply: “Plants on a pedestal.” This small, intentionally vegan restaurant on North 2nd Street in Philadelphia makes vegetables the star of every plate. The menu changes daily, shaped by what’s available from local farms, and every dish is entirely plant-based.
The dining room is intimate — the restaurant notes they are “a very small restaurant” and cannot accommodate parties larger than eight. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are encouraged. The space itself bears the marks of its history: the structural nature of the building means they cannot fully accommodate wheelchairs, though they encourage guests to reach out with questions.
Everything at Pietramala is vegan, and they are happy to accommodate other allergies or dietary needs with advance notice. As of spring 2025, they have partnered with Camuna Cellars winery to serve Pennsylvania wines, adding a local touch to the drink list. The team prioritizes seasonality and regional sourcing, letting the produce guide the cooking.
Pietramala’s focused, ingredient-driven cooking earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. For a restaurant that puts vegetables at the forefront, this recognition speaks to the craft and clarity of the kitchen’s work — no substitutes or imitations, just plants treated with respect and care.
Dinner service runs Tuesday through Saturday, with last seatings at 8:30 pm midweek and 9:15 pm on weekends. Pietramala is not BYO, but offers a $25 corkage fee per bottle for those who wish to bring their own wine. Private parties require a full buyout of the 34-seat space.
