The story
In 2015, Molly Hawks and Michael Fagnoni opened Hawks Provisions + Public House in East Sacramento. The couple, who also run Hawks in Granite Bay and Moksa Barrel House in West Roseville, set out to create a gastropub-style restaurant rooted in modern American cooking. The restaurant quickly earned a dedicated local following and has since been recognized by Michelin with a Recommended distinction, reflecting the consistent quality that defines the kitchen.
Chef Michael Fagnoni leads the culinary vision, while Chef de Cuisine Francisco Rivera — known simply as Chef Frank — brings day-to-day energy and precision to the line. Rivera, born in Puerto Rico and shaped by kitchens across Sacramento, found his creative home at Hawks Public House. The team prioritizes ingredients from small farms and local purveyors, letting the seasonality of the region guide the menu.
The à la carte dinner and lunch menus offer a sharp edit of shareable provisions and composed entrees. Starters like duck liver mousse with blood orange gelée and grilled Acme levain, or scallop carpaccio in ginger coconut tiger’s milk, set a refined tone. Pastas are a strength — the fusilli carbonara with crispy guanciale and a fried black pepper cured egg yolk, and the lobster and spaghetti fra diavolo with Calabrian chili both showcase depth and balance. Larger plates include an almond wood–grilled flat iron steak with potato rösti and black garlic jus, and Ōra King salmon with creamy cannellini beans and Spanish chorizo.
Hawks also runs a popular Fried Chicken Monday special, and a daily Happy Hour from 2:30 to 5:00 PM, offering 20% off select food, cocktails, and wine. A private room is available for events, and the restaurant offers catering and takeout.
