The story
Little Em’s Oyster Bar describes itself as “a curated selection of pristine seafood, bold flavors, and standout dishes,” set within a space that is “polished without ever feeling forced.” The result is a place designed for long lunches that drift into late afternoons, where the atmosphere feels both intimate and vibrant.
The restaurant opened in December 2020 at 1001 S. Alamo, inspired by CEO and co‑founder Emily Carpenter’s love of oysters, seafood, and home‑style cooking. What began as a small, colorful spot quickly filled night after night, becoming part of the neighborhood’s rhythm. As demand grew, Little Em’s moved across the street to 1024 S. Alamo, expanding into a larger space while keeping the same energy.
Today the team includes General Manager Raymond Vargas, Executive Oyster Chef Slim Alexander, and Chef de Cuisine Rich Gonzales. Their foundation of quality ingredients and thoughtful cooking earned recognition from the Michelin Guide in both 2024 and 2025.
Oysters are just the beginning. The menu leans into American seafood with dishes like Bluefin Tostadas (crispy corn tortillas, bluefin tuna, avocado, chili oil), Lobster Rolls (choice of Maine or Connecticut style), and the signature Little Em’s Burger (brisket chuck shortrib patty with white cheddar). Other standouts include Caviar Mac with truffle salt, Spicy Shrimp Linguine, and Grilled Branzino with Italian salsa verde. A daily Happy Hour (3–5pm) offers $2 oysters, $8 martinis, and $12 burgers.
Little Em’s also partners in a citywide recycling initiative: every oyster shell is given a second life, helping restore Texas coastal reefs and support the waters that inspire the kitchen.
