The story
Chef Mourad Lahlou’s Aziza is a neighborhood restaurant rooted in community, located on Geary Boulevard in San Francisco’s Richmond District. The restaurant offers a relaxed yet refined dining experience, built on Lahlou’s deep knowledge of spices and Moroccan flavors. The menu, served at dinner and weekend brunch, is rustic and ingredient-driven, drawing from the culinary traditions of North Africa.
The space itself is welcoming and unpretentious, a place where locals and visitors alike gather to share meals. Lahlou, who earned a Michelin star for his work, continues to receive recognition—Aziza holds a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.
Dinner begins with snacks and spreads: pecans with harissa, Castelvetrano olives with preserved lemon, and Jane’s miche bread with Aziza butter, honey, and za’atar. Starters range from a king salad with oregano goddess dressing to grilled octopus with m’hamsa and merguez vinaigrette. The basteeya—chicken confit with spiced nuts, caramelized onions, and sultana raisins—is a signature.
Entrees include braised lamb shank with cracked wheat and sweet potato, a shakshuka with chickpeas and jalapeño cream, and couscous with brown butter and winter squash. For larger groups, Laãcha family-style options feature grilled whole branzino with red and green charmoula, roasted heritage chicken in tangine brine, and slow-cooked short rib tangia with baharat and pears.
Brunch is served on weekends, offering a lighter take on the same Moroccan-inspired approach. The restaurant includes a 6% service charge to cover San Francisco employer mandates, and an automatic gratuity of 20% for parties of six or more.
Aziza is a place where refined technique meets genuine hospitality, and the flavors of Morocco are expressed with clarity and warmth.
