The story
The story of Fogo de Chão begins in the mountainous countryside of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where the founding brothers grew up on a traditional farm, learning the culinary art of churrasco. After formal training and years of dedication, they opened their first restaurant in Porto Alegre, a wood structure that quickly gained a reputation among locals and visitors alike. Today, that same passion for fire-roasted meats lives on at the Dunwoody location in Sandy Springs, where the flames have been burning since 1979.
At this Brazilian steakhouse, gaucho chefs circulate the dining room with skewers of fire-roasted meats, carving tableside. The full churrasco experience includes signature cuts like Picanha (prime top sirloin), Fraldinha (bottom sirloin), and Costela (beef ribs), each slow-roasted over open flames. The Market Table offers a fresh, vibrant spread of salads, vegetables, and imported cheeses, while Bar Fogo serves Brazilian-inspired small plates and craft cocktails.
The wine program at Fogo de Chão has earned recognition, including the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2017. The Founders Tribute Wine Collection features four wines—Jorjão, Eulila, O’Leão, and The Sonhadores—each crafted to pair with specific cuts. For example, the Jorjão Reserva Malbec from Argentina complements the Picanha and leaner dishes, while the O’Leão Red Blend from Chile enhances the rich flavors of the Fraldinha and Wagyu New York Strip.
Whether you're gathering for a special occasion or a casual dinner, the Sandy Springs location offers a warm, energetic setting. With options for lunch, dinner, outdoor seating, and private parties, it’s a place where the tradition of churrasco meets modern hospitality. The culinary team continues to honor the founders’ legacy, keeping the fire ready for you.
