The story
Yoichi’s offers a traditional Japanese multi-course dining experience in the heart of Santa Barbara. The restaurant focuses on kaiseki, the meticulously composed tasting menu that honors seasonality, craft, and balance. Each evening, guests are guided through a sequence of dishes that unfolds like a quiet conversation between the kitchen and the ingredients.
The menu is offered in two lengths: a nine-course dinner for $180 and an eight-course option for $155. Courses follow the classic kaiseki structure, beginning with Owan (soup) and Zensai (assorted appetizers), then moving through Mukouzuke (sashimi), a Hashi yasume (flavor reset), Yakimono (grilled dish), Mushimono (steamed dish), Shiizakana (simmered dish), Shokuji (sushi), and ending with Kanmi (dessert). The progression is deliberate, each course preparing the palate for the next.
Yoichi’s has been recognized by the Michelin Guide with a Recommended designation, reflecting the care and consistency of its Japanese cuisine. The recognition places the restaurant among notable destinations for kaiseki outside major metropolitan centers. Reservations are required and can be made via phone or email; the dining room is open Thursday through Monday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
