The story
Cousin Vinny's Sandwich Co. brings the spirit of a New York Italian-American deli to Tampa. The shop is the work of a group of friends, or "paisans," originally from New York who wanted to share their passion for quality sandwiches with the Tampa Bay community. Their approach is straightforward: Good Mood, Good Food.
The restaurant's Italian-American cuisine starts with its signature bread. The menu features a schiaccata, a Tuscan-style bread that is thinner and crispier than focaccia, baked in-house until golden. Sandwiches like The Uncle Jun pile capicola, arugula, and housemade pecorino cream onto this bread, while the Prosciutto Di Papo adds prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and a housemade roasted artichoke cream spread.
For heartier options, the cutlet sandwiches are served on freshly sourced Italian bread lightly toasted with garlic spread. The Tony Piccante features a hand-breaded chicken cutlet with housemade spicy vodka sauce, roasted red peppers, and ricotta. The Capo del Schmeet brings together a cherry pepper mayo, capicola, and provolone for a spicy kick. Homemade meatballs also star in a classic Meatball Parmesan sandwich.
The team behind the counter includes Executive Chef and Co-Founder Vinny Andriotti and Head of Operations Cuz (Russ) Leone. They describe their bond as a natural synergy born from their Italian-American heritage and deep roots in New York, now focused on serving Tampa’s growing food scene. Their commitment to made-from-scratch food has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended award, a notable recognition for a sandwich shop in the Tampa area.
Beyond the main menu, Cousin Vinny's offers catering trays of classics like baked ziti, chicken cutlets, and penne alla vodka, as well as sandwich and wrap boxes for groups. It is a casual spot built on the simple idea of sharing good food with the community.
