The story
In the heart of Washington, DC’s Dupont Circle, Residents Cafe & Bar offers a dining experience that feels both intimate and worldly. The name reflects the founders’ own story—immigrants who became residents of the United States and this vibrant city. They invite guests to become “residents” too, settling in for an evening of carefully crafted food and drink.
The restaurant describes itself as “casual-chic,” with an atmosphere built on sensory detail. Curated house playlists shift from day to night, while an abundance of greenery creates a lush, calming backdrop. The result is a place that feels welcoming without sacrificing sophistication—a setting for a leisurely brunch, a late cocktail, or a full dinner.
Residents’ menu is described as “a continually evolving repertoire; some classics, some reworking of old favorites plus new dishes for each season.” The kitchen focuses on high-quality, seasonal ingredients, drawing on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences. Brunch offerings include Turkish eggs with house-made pita, labneh, and za’atar vinaigrette, or a Merguez and Sweet Potato Hash with house-made merguez sausage. Dinner ranges from small plates like Labneh with morello cherry coulis and Hamachi Crudo with Meyer lemon emulsion, to larger plates such as Braised Lamb Shank with rosemary marble potatoes and Charred Octopus with red chermoula. The cocktail program is equally thoughtful, with bottled cocktails and espresso martinis made with ghee and chai.
Residents has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for five consecutive years, a testament to its ability to deliver good quality, good value cooking in a relaxed setting. That recognition is woven into the restaurant’s identity—a mark of consistency that regulars and visitors alike can count on.
