Since 2013, Rose’s Luxury has been a defining presence on Capitol Hill, earning a Michelin star for its high-quality cooking. The restaurant’s motto—“making people happy”—is evident in every detail, from the warm, welcoming space at 717 8th St. SE to the inventive, playful menu.
The dining experience at this contemporary restaurant is built around a “Choose Your Own Adventure” format. Guests begin with a shared starter, such as the pull-apart milk bread with miso garlic honey butter. From there, each diner selects their own first course. Options include the signature pork and lychee salad—“the one & only”—a super charred cabbage with sauce champagne and parmesan, or a raw “bbq” beef with sesame, Asian pear, and an egg yolk.
For the main course, everyone again chooses their own dish. The menu features playful creations like “pasta en papillote,” described as a culinary love letter, udon alle vongole that blends Japanese comfort food with seaside Italian pasta, and a strawberry pasta with strawberry-tomato sauce and fresh ricotta. Larger, shareable plates include a Japanese eggplant parm with miso-caesar salad and a miso glazed sea bass inspired by chefs Nobu and Robuchon. The meal concludes with “slightly ridiculously-sized desserts,” such as cornbread fried ice cream or fried bread pudding.
The restaurant’s Michelin star reflects the precision and creativity found in every course, yet the atmosphere remains relaxed and inviting. The menu is offered as a five-course tasting experience, with a la carte options available on select Wednesdays. Rose’s Luxury is open Wednesday through Saturday for dinner, with hours varying by day. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.
