The story
Thìa Gỗ is a Vietnamese restaurant on a quiet street in Da Nang’s city center, a short ride from the main attractions. The kitchen focuses on the cooking of Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta – the kind of food that earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand (2024–2025) and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award (2023). The team is quick to note, though, that awards reflect the tastes of a few judges, not yours. They simply invite you to enjoy your meal without prejudice.
The menu is built around classics from the south: bánh xèo (crispy fried pancake), lẩu mắm (fermented mudfish paste hot pot), Southern-style phở, fresh and fried spring rolls, and bún bò Huế (spicy noodle soup with fish paste flavor). Standouts include the bánh xèo miền Tây with your choice of beef, squid, shrimp, or oyster mushroom filling, and the gỏi bò tái chanh – a medium-rare beef lime salad that balances bright acidity with tender meat.
For a full taste of the region, the Combo Sài Gòn brings together bún thịt bò xào (noodle salad with stir-fried beef), gỏi bò tái chanh, bánh xèo thập cẩm, and a spicy sour hot pot.
Thìa Gỗ caters to a range of dietary needs without compromising on flavor. There are dedicated meat-free and vegetarian options – including vegan spring rolls, mushroom fried rice, and oyster mushroom noodle salads. The kitchen also maintains halal cooking methods: no pork, no lard, no pork seasoning. Non-zabihah meats are clearly labeled “NO HALAL” on the menu, so diners can choose with confidence.
The restaurant is open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, with last orders for dine-in at 9:45 PM and delivery via GrabFood until 9 PM. Outdoor seating is available, and there is parking on site.
