The story
Chef Hoang Duong’s culinary story begins in a village kitchen, watching his father prepare family meals. That early passion for fresh ingredients and authentic Vietnamese cooking became the foundation of Duong’s Restaurant, his first solo venture on Ngo Huyen Street in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.
The menu at Duong’s is built on a simple philosophy: use only the best local produce, and let seasonality dictate what appears on the plate. This approach means the offering evolves throughout the year, reflecting what is freshest at the market. Chef Duong describes his food as a mix of traditional Vietnamese dishes with Vietnamese-French fusion, presented with care and precision.
His skills have been tested on national television, competing in both Top Chef Vietnam (where he placed 4th in 2014) and Iron Chef Vietnam. These experiences led to a role as a mentor for younger chefs across the country, a part of his work he particularly values.
In 2023, Duong’s was recognized in the MICHELIN Guide Vietnam, a testament to the quality and consistency of the cooking. The restaurant itself has a cozy atmosphere, with images of Hanoi adorning the walls, and a team known for their warm, friendly service.
Beyond the dining room, Duong’s also offers cooking classes and street food tours, giving guests a deeper look into Vietnamese cuisine. Whether you come for lunch or dinner, the focus remains on honest, flavorful Vietnamese food driven by the best ingredients of the season.
